Lucy Brown - Ceramic Work

I have been working with ceramics since first introduced at school aged 11. I went on to completed a ceramics degree at Falmouth College of Arts and graduated in 2004. Since then I have been working from my studio near Cheddar.

I make lighting and home-ware pieces in particular jugs. I use stains to add pattern and colour during the making process and finish with a clear glaze. My work is becoming more and more quirky and slightly less functional as it progresses. I try to be quite free with each piece and like it to have a bit of a wobble as I think this gives it its own character. I am inspired by pattern, colour, functionality and trying to improve on the last one I made.

The lighting focuses on texture and light. I use fabrics and Porcelain slip to make pendant and floor lamps. I use the slab technique to make table and wall lamps which are patterned using imprinted found objects and piercing.
